Online betting operator Betclic has agreed a deal to become the new title sponsor of Liga Portugal, the country’s top football division.

From the 2023-24 season, the competition will be known as Liga Portugal Betclic. The deal will run through to the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

Betclic will roll out a series of activations to connect with fans throughout the course of the partnership.

“It is a privilege for Liga Portugal to associate with a market leader multinational such as Betclic,” Liga Portugal’s president, Pedro Proença, said. “This partnership unequivocally shows the high level of professional football in Portugal.

“Brands like Betclic share our vision and, above all, our ambition for the growth of Portuguese professional football. This is an unequivocal sign of what the Liga Portugal brand is today.”

Betclic’s head of international markets, Ricardo Domingues, added: “It is with great pride that Betclic assumes its sponsorship of Liga Portugal. This reaffirms our commitment to support football and national sport.

“We believe that the combination of the potential of both parties, aligned with a common desire to develop the competition and reinforce our values, are factors that bring us closer together.

“It allows us to serve people, fans, athletes, clubs, organisations and sports agents, all with the aim of improving sport.”

Betclic replaces Bwin as title sponsor of Liga Portugal. Bwin had sponsored the league since the 2021-22 season, after an earlier spell as title sponsor between 2005 and 2008.

From 2005 to 2006, the league was known as Liga Betandwin.com. It switched to Bwin Liga in 2006.
